SLM Fall 2018 Newsletter

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

It’s been a very busy and exciting year at South Lansing Ministries! During the spring and summer months, we again participated on several occasions with a local church in their “Sack Lunch Program” which put together lunches for Homeless Angels. We had a wonderful “volunteer day” with the youth group from Grace United Methodist Church who packed food orders, restocked shelves, tore down cardboard for recycling and assisted clients with carryout of their orders. The youth had a great time while helping to serve in their community.

For the grant year ending June 30, 2018 we served over three thousand individuals multiple times with our food pantry. We are seeing more families each month, with more members per family. With grant money from Jackson National Life and other donations, we have been able to provide every family with personal needs items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, laundry soap, and toilet paper. These personal needs items cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. We are always in need of more donations of these items.

We now have a children’s book corner at the pantry. Every child who comes in may take a book (or two) home with them. We gladly accept new or gently used children’s books, new coloring books, and crayons.

This is SLM's children's library. Parents are encouraged to take a book (or two or three) for each of their children. Many of these books were donated by the Grace UMC's congregation and many others. On any given Monday or Thursday, visitors can find a small child or two sprawled out on the floor in front of this bookcase while Mom or Dad completes paperwork and loads up their order.
